If you’re looking for a remarkable, safe, and effective solution for missing teeth, then check out dental implants. This tooth-replacement option seems and feels like your natural teeth, so you won’t compromise stability for aesthetics, as you would with other restorations. At Central Dental Care, we’ll work with you to make sure that dental implants are the ideal treatment for your unique situation.
The entire implant process is extensive, taking about four to six months to complete. No matter where you are in the process, Dr. Talva Grundstrom Joost and our fantastic staff will answer any questions you have, and remedy any concerns as well.
Before you can begin treatment, we require you to meet with Dr. Joost for a one-on-one meeting. During this time, she’ll examine your oral structure and decide if supplemental procedures are necessary. If she finds that everything is in order, she’ll continue the meeting by asking you some questions about your dental and medical history, as well as your lifestyle (E.g., are you a smoker?).
If you have any questions regarding dental implants or the process, your consultation is an excellent opportunity to ask.
Following your consultation with Dr. Joost, you’ll arrive for the implant placement procedure. She will complete this minor surgery in our office. Depending on the number of implants you’re receiving, this surgery can last between one and multiple hours.
Dr. Joost will begin by making a small incision in the gum tissue to expose the jawbone. From there, she’ll place the implant fixture—the part of the implant that simulates the tooth’s root and creates a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.
We’ll place a temporary crown over the implant to protect it while you heal. You might experience some slight discomfort during the next few days, but we expect this.
The recovery process is crucial for the success of the implant because this is when the jawbone fuses with the implant through a process called osseointegration. When this happens, the jawbone heals around the implant, forging a sturdy base for the rest of the restoration and giving it that natural, tooth-like feel and function.
After the fixture has fully ossified with your jawbone, you’ll return to Central Dental Care to complete the process. At this time, Dr. Joost will remove the temporary crown and replace it with a custom-designed porcelain crown. Porcelain is a durable, tooth-colored material that has the proven strength to withstand the bite forces that you jaw emits.
Once the permanent crown is secured, your implant will be complete, and you can feel free to chew, laugh, smile, and socialize as you please. Best yet, dental implants don’t require any special treatment. As long as you brush twice a day, floss after meals, and routinely visit Dr. Joost, your new smile addition will last for many years to come.
